Wilbert Bond, Sr., my grandfather, was a WWII Navy veteran who earned his bachelor’s degree from Fisk University in 1950. He was the first black graduate to earn a Master’s Degree at Middle Tennessee State in 1965. A member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, he spent his life serving others and fighting for civil rights. Bond was a teacher for 18 years, an equal opportunity manager for the Navy, a past president of the Tennessee NAACP, and a consultant.
